INSTRUCTIONS
FOR PRESENTATION OF THE APPLICATION
FOR RECOGNITION OF ITALIAN NATIONALITY

 THE FIRST DOCUMENT TO LOOK FOR IS THE CERTIFICATE OF BIRTH IN TRENTINO (OR AT ANY EVENT IN ITALY) FOR THE ANCESTOR WHO EMIGRATED ABROAD.

Let us take the example of a grandfather who emigrated from Trentino, recalling that those born up to 31 December 1947 may request recognition of nationality only through the paternal line, whereas those born after 1 January 1948 may instead request recognition both through the paternal and maternal line.
